Capability

Repeatability you can hand to any operator, on any shift

A fixture that locates on the right datums, clamps without distorting the part and loads quickly is the difference between a stable process and a standing argument with quality.

  • Datum study before design
  • Design approved on drawing
  • Trialled with real parts
Section A-ALocating and clamping arrangement

Best for

Repeat parts where quality depends on operator skill today

You send

Part drawing with datums, process details and the problem you want gone

You get back

An approved design, then a fixture trialled with your parts

The situation

Symptoms of a workholding problem

When a process depends on how carefully a particular operator sets up, the cost shows up as scrap, rework, slow loading and an inspection queue.

  • 01Parts drifting out of tolerance during a run rather than failing outright
  • 02Operators indicating or dialling in every part
  • 03Welded assemblies distorting through the heat cycle
  • 04Inspection taking longer than the machining did
  • 05Quality that changes between the day shift and the night shift

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Machining, welding, inspection and assembly fixtures designed around your part, process and datums.

  • A datum scheme that holds up

The fixture locates on the surfaces that matter and does not build error into the next operation.

  • Clamping that does not distort

Locators, clamps and supports placed to resist cutting or welding forces without deforming the part.

  • A fixture people can actually use

Loading direction, clamp access, chip evacuation, coolant flow and operator reach considered together with accuracy.

  • Duplicates and repairs later

Design files retained so a second machine, a part revision or a worn element is handled without starting over.

Where this stops

CMTA builds the mechanical fixture. Where a project needs hydraulic power packs, pneumatics or control integration, that scope is named in the proposal and delivered with partners rather than implied.

01

Fixture types and the outcomes they buy

  • Machining fixtures for VMC, HMC and turning operations
  • Welding fixtures that hold geometry through the heat cycle
  • Inspection and gauging fixtures for fast, repeatable checks
  • Assembly fixtures for alignment and press-fit operations
  • Outcomes: shorter setups, consistent quality, faster loading, safer handling
02

A fixture is only as good as its datum scheme

We study the part drawing, the operation sequence and how the part is located in the following operation, so the fixture references the surfaces that matter and does not accumulate error between operations. This is the step that decides whether a fixture solves your problem or relocates it.

03

Locating, clamping and the operator

Locators, clamps and supports are placed to resist the cutting or welding forces without distorting the part. Loading direction, clamp access, chip evacuation, coolant flow and operator reach are considered alongside accuracy, because a fixture that is accurate but slow or awkward to load will not deliver the cycle time you approved it for.

04

Manufacture, inspection and trial

Fixture elements are machined and ground to the tolerances the part requires, hardened where wear demands it, then assembled and inspected. The fixture is trialled with real parts — at CMTA or on your machine — and adjusted before handover.

05

Mistake-proofing and maintainability

Where the process benefits, features are added to prevent wrong or reversed loading, and wearing elements are designed as replaceable inserts so the fixture can be maintained rather than remade in two years.

How it runs

The route from enquiry to verified result

Each stage produces something you can check, and the drawing approval stage is yours to control.

  1. 01

    Part and process study

Drawing, datums, operation sequence and how the part is located downstream.

  2. 02

    Concept and design

Locating scheme, clamping and machine interface issued for your approval.

  3. 03

    Manufacture

Elements machined and ground, hardened where wear demands it, then assembled and inspected.

  4. 04

    Trial and handover

Run with real parts, adjusted, handed over with drawings retained.

What to send, and where to look next

The inputs that make a useful review, plus the related pages worth reading first.

What we need for a feasibility review

  • Component drawing or model, with datums marked
  • Process details: machine, operation, cutting forces or welding sequence
  • Machine table, pallet or workstation details
  • Cycle-time target and loading method
  • The quality problem you are trying to eliminate, if any

Send what you have. The technical review identifies the rest.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is needed to quote a fixture?

The part drawing or model with datums, the operation and machine or workstation details, the loading method and cycle target, and the quality issue you want removed. Photographs of the current setup are very helpful.

Can you duplicate or modify an existing fixture?

Yes. Design files are retained for fixtures CMTA built, and an existing fixture from elsewhere can be assessed and modified after review.

Which processes are completed in-house?

Machining, grinding, assembly and inspection are CMTA's own work. Where fixture work needs heat treatment, plating or coating, those are coordinated through approved partners and CMTA stays responsible for the finished part. The exact split for your job is confirmed in writing at feasibility review, not left vague.

How are inspection and acceptance requirements agreed?

Before manufacture, we list the dimensions, fits, finish and functional checks that actually decide whether the part works. Those are what get measured, reported and, where relevant, trialled on your machine. Acceptance is judged against that written list rather than a general assurance.
