Product

Support that turns with the work

Live centres carry the point on bearings so it rotates with the workpiece, allowing higher speeds and heavier loads without punishing the centre hole.

  • Standard and heavy-duty arrangements
  • Interchangeable and extended points
  • Worn centres assessed for rebuild
Section A-ARotating centre assembly

Best for

Long shafts and heavy work supported at speed

You send

Taper size, workpiece weight, speed range and accuracy needed

You get back

Centres rated for the load, with runout checked assembled

How it starts

Load rating matched to your actual application

The situation

Why live centres fail early

Usually because they are asked to do a job one size up from the one they were bought for.

  • 01An under-rated centre used on heavy work
  • 02Excessive tailstock pressure damaging the bearings
  • 03A point angle that does not match the centre hole
  • 04Coolant ingress into an unsealed centre

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Bearing-supported centres for turning and grinding at speed.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so centres arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

A rotating centre carries the point on bearings so it turns with the work, allowing higher speeds and heavier loads than a dead centre without wearing the centre hole. CMTA manufactures live centres alongside dead centres and pipe centres.

02

Types and configurations

Morse taper shanks in common sizes, standard and heavy-duty bearing arrangements, and interchangeable or extended points. Verified table to follow.

03

Confirming compatibility

Choose the taper for the tailstock, the load rating for the workpiece weight and cutting forces, and the point form for the centre hole and clearance.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Hardened point and shank, precision bearings, ground taper and point, with runout checked on the assembled centre.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select rotating centres?

Taper size, Workpiece weight and load, Speed range, Point geometry (standard, extended, pipe), Accuracy required. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise rotating centres?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
