Product

Face mills that run flat and true

The accuracy of the arbor and pilot decides the flatness and finish of the machined face. These holders are ground on the features that carry that responsibility.

  • Arbor and pilot sizes to suit common cutters
  • Ground for concentricity
  • Special arbor lengths on drawing
Section A-AFace mill holder profile

Best for

Face milling and surface machining on machining centres

You send

Holder code, cutter bore, spindle interface and cutter diameter

You get back

Holders with taper and arbor ground for concentricity

How it starts

Gauge length checked against fixture clearance

The situation

Where face-milling finish goes wrong

A face mill amplifies every error in the mounting, because the cutting edges are furthest from the spindle centreline.

  • 01Cutter bore and arbor mismatch causing runout across the cutter
  • 02Excessive gauge length for a large-diameter cutter
  • 03Worn drive keys transmitting load unevenly
  • 04Assemblies that were never checked for balance at the intended speed

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Holders that mount face mills, shell mills and surface cutters to the spindle.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so holders arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

These holder families mount face mills, shell mills and surface cutters to the machine spindle, carrying the cutter on an arbor or pilot with drive keys. Their accuracy is what the flatness and finish of the machined face ultimately rests on.

02

Types and configurations

Arbor and pilot sizes matched to common cutter bores, with BT, ISO and CAT spindle interfaces. The verified code and size table follows CMTA's confirmation.

03

Confirming compatibility

Match the spindle taper, the cutter bore and drive key arrangement, and the gauge length needed to clear the fixture.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Alloy steel, hardened, with taper and arbor ground for concentricity and face runout checked.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select fmb, fmc, sms and sca holders?

Holder code, Cutter type and bore or arbor size, Spindle interface, Cutter diameter, Application and material. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise fmb, fmc, sms and sca holders?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
