Product

Support that holds its point

A centre is a small part with a large influence on concentricity. Plain and carbide-tipped dead centres and pipe centres, ground on the taper and the point that do the work.

  • Plain and carbide-tipped
  • Half centres for facing
  • Large-nose pipe centres
Section A-ACentre profile and point

Best for

Work supported between centres in turning, grinding and inspection

You send

Taper size, point or pipe geometry, load and accuracy needed

You get back

Centres with ground taper and point, runout checked

How it starts

Point geometry matched to your centre hole

The situation

Signs the centre is the problem

Centres wear quietly, and the taper they sit in wears with them.

  • 01A dead centre run too fast without lubrication
  • 02Point angle that does not match the centre hole
  • 03A pipe centre nose too small for the bore it supports
  • 04Worn tailstock tapers causing runout nobody has traced

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Centres for supporting and aligning work between centres on lathes, grinders and benches.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so centres arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

Dead centres support the workpiece on its centre hole without rotating; carbide-tipped versions resist wear at higher speeds. Pipe centres carry a large conical nose to support tubes and bored parts. CMTA manufactures dead centres, live centres and pipe centres as part of its accessory range.

02

Types and configurations

Morse taper shanks in common sizes, plain and carbide-tipped points, half centres for facing, and pipe centres across a range of nose diameters. Verified table to follow.

03

Confirming compatibility

Match the tailstock or spindle taper, choose the point geometry from the centre hole and the operation, and specify carbide tipping where speed and wear justify it.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Hardened steel with ground taper and point; carbide tips ground after brazing; runout checked between taper and point.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select dead centres and pipe centres?

Taper size (Morse or other), Point or pipe geometry and angle, Load and workpiece weight, Workpiece and application, Accuracy required. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise dead centres and pipe centres?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
