Boring bars held on centre, at reach

Boring is where overhang, centre height and clamping rigidity stop being theoretical. These holders locate the bar properly and keep it there through the cut.

  • Square and round bar shanks
  • Centre height inspected
  • Special reach on drawing
Section A-ABoring holder arrangement

Best for

Boring on turret lathes and vertical turret lathes

You send

Holder designation, bar shank, bore diameter and depth

You get back

Holders that locate the bar on centre and hold it

How it starts

Reach checked against bore depth before manufacture

The situation

Why bored holes go oversize or chatter

Almost always a rigidity chain problem, and the holder is usually the weakest link in it.

  • 01Excessive overhang for the bar diameter being used
  • 02The bar not set on centre height
  • 03Worn clamping faces that no longer grip the full shank
  • 04The wrong holder for the bore size, forcing a compromise bar

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Holders for stable boring with square-shank and micro-boring tools.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so boring holders arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

BCA, BSA and BSB designations cover holders for boring bars used on vertical turret lathes and turret lathes in the HMT tooling system. They locate the bar on centre and provide the clamping to resist the radial loads of boring, which matter most at longer reach.

02

Types and configurations

Holders for a range of square and round bar shanks and bore sizes. The verified designation and size table follows CMTA's confirmation.

03

Confirming compatibility

Match the holder to the turret slot, the bar shank size and the bore diameter, then confirm reach against bore depth so overhang is no greater than the job needs.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Alloy steel, heat treated, ground on locating faces and bar seat, and inspected for centre height and squareness.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select bca, bsa and bsb holders?

Holder type (BCA, BSA or BSB), Tool size or bar shank, Bore diameter, Reach or depth of bore, Machine and turret details. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise bca, bsa and bsb holders?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
