Capability

The bottleneck is usually the holder, not the machine

When operators back off feeds to stop vibration or add a pass to recover accuracy, the machine is running below its capability. We find the mechanical reason, fix it, and measure the result on your machine.

  • Baseline measured first
  • Trial plan agreed before changes
  • Standardised only when proven
Section A-ATooling arrangement for one operation

Best for

Repeat operations where cycle or setup time is the constraint

You send

Machine, operation, current tooling and baseline times

You get back

A trial plan, then tooling proven against your baseline

How it starts

Analysis from a shop visit or a video of the operation

The situation

Productivity lost to tooling compromises

Most productivity losses are not dramatic. They are small, permanent compromises made because the available holder did not suit the job.

  • 01Feeds and speeds held back to avoid chatter on one operation
  • 02An extra finishing pass to recover accuracy the tool deflected away
  • 03Setups measured in hours on small batches
  • 04Tools indicated and offset at every changeover
  • 05Two operations that could be one, but never were

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Application-led tooling that reduces setup, tool-change and cycle time against a measured baseline.

  • A number to improve against

The current cycle time, setup time, tool life or scrap rate is captured before anything changes — otherwise improvement is just opinion.

  • A tool-by-tool analysis

Holder type and rigidity, overhang, insert choice, clamping, approach angles and interference examined for the actual operation.

  • A trial you can judge

What will change, how it will be measured, and what result counts as success — agreed before the trial runs.

  • A documented standard

Proven solutions are documented for that operation and duplicated for other machines running the same part.

Where this stops

No honest supplier can guarantee a cycle-time reduction before seeing the operation. Changes are trialled and measured, and standardised only when your own machine justifies it.

01

Every project starts with a number

The current cycle time, setup time, tool life or scrap rate is the baseline. Without it there is no way to show improvement and no way for you to judge whether the investment paid. We will help you capture it before anything is changed.

02

Tooling and application analysis

The operation is examined tool by tool: holder type and rigidity, overhang, insert or cutter choice, clamping, approach angles and interference. This is usually where the answer is hiding.

03

Difficult applications benefit most

Deep bores, long overhangs, thin-walled parts, interrupted cuts and hard materials gain the most from purpose-designed holders and fixtures, because they are the cases where a generic holder forces the largest compromise.

04

Setup and tool-change reduction

Pre-set holder families, quick-change interfaces, combined-operation tools and fixtures that locate without indicating all reduce the time your machine is not cutting. Which combination pays depends on batch size and change frequency — which is exactly why the analysis comes before the recommendation.

05

Cycle-time improvement, then validation

With stable tooling in place, parameters can be raised, passes combined and air-cutting reduced. A trial plan defines what changes, how it is measured and what counts as success, and the results are documented so the decision to standardise rests on evidence from your own machine.

How it runs

The route from enquiry to verified result

Each stage produces something you can check, and the drawing approval stage is yours to control.

  1. 01

    Baseline

Current cycle, setup, tool life and quality issues recorded with you.

  2. 02

    Analysis

The operation examined tool by tool for rigidity, reach, clamping and interference.

  3. 03

    Trial

Purpose-built tooling run against the agreed plan and measured.

  4. 04

    Standardise

Result documented, tooling duplicated for other machines or lines.

What we need for a feasibility review

  • Machine and the operation with its current tooling
  • Current cycle time and setup time
  • Quality issue or bottleneck you are seeing
  • Target KPI: cycle time, setup time, tool life or cost per part
  • Volume and batch pattern

Send what you have. The technical review identifies the rest.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

How does a productivity project start?

With a baseline: how long the setup or cycle takes now, and where the time actually goes. CMTA can observe the operation on site or work from your description, photographs and a short video.

Can you guarantee a cycle-time reduction?

No supplier honestly can before seeing the operation. What we commit to is a measured baseline, a trial plan agreed in advance, and standardising only what the result on your machine justifies.

Which processes are completed in-house?

Machining, grinding, assembly and inspection are CMTA's own work. Where tooling and productivity work needs heat treatment, plating or coating, those are coordinated through approved partners and CMTA stays responsible for the finished part. The exact split for your job is confirmed in writing at feasibility review, not left vague.

How are inspection and acceptance requirements agreed?

Before manufacture, we list the dimensions, fits, finish and functional checks that actually decide whether the part works. Those are what get measured, reported and, where relevant, trialled on your machine. Acceptance is judged against that written list rather than a general assurance.
