Morse taper tooling that still earns its place

For deep and large holes, taper-shank drills and reamers remain the most economical tooling in the shop. These adaptors mount them properly on the machine you actually have.

  • Tang and threaded retention
  • Turret, straight and spindle mounting
  • Special lengths on drawing
Section A-AMorse taper holder

Best for

Deep or large holes using taper-shank tooling

You send

Morse taper size, tool type, hole depth and machine interface

You get back

Adaptors with internal and external tapers ground

How it starts

Retention method and length confirmed before manufacture

The situation

Where taper-shank setups fail

Tapers are self-holding until they are damaged, and then they fail in ways that are easy to misdiagnose.

  • 01Damaged tapers reducing drive and concentricity
  • 02The wrong retention method for the tool being run
  • 03Sleeves stacked on sleeves, multiplying runout and losing rigidity
  • 04Coolant supply overlooked on deep holes

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Morse taper holders and adaptors for drills, reamers and boring tools.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so adaptors arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

MTA and MTB holders adapt Morse taper shank tools to the turret or spindle of lathes, VTLs and machining centres, with tang or drawbar retention. They are used wherever taper-shank drills, reamers and boring tools are the sensible tooling choice for deep or large holes.

02

Types and configurations

Morse taper sizes from small to large, with turret-shank, straight-shank and spindle-taper mounting. The verified table follows CMTA's confirmation.

03

Confirming compatibility

Match the Morse taper of the tool, the retention method — tang or threaded — and the mounting on your machine, then confirm length against hole depth and clearance.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Hardened alloy steel, with internal and external tapers ground and runout checked between them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select mta and mtb holders?

Morse taper size, Tool type and shank, Depth of hole, Work material, Machine and turret or spindle interface. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise mta and mtb holders?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
