Adapt the taper without losing concentricity

A sleeve is only as good as the relationship between its two tapers. Ground in a controlled sequence so the tool ends up where the programme expects it.

  • Morse-to-Morse reductions
  • Extension sockets in a range of lengths
  • Tang and threaded retention
Section A-ASleeve section

Best for

Adapting taper tooling and reaching into deep features

You send

Inner and outer taper sizes, length and retention method

You get back

Sleeves with both tapers ground and concentricity checked

How it starts

Total length reviewed against rigidity before manufacture

The situation

How sleeves quietly cost you accuracy

Each interface adds error. Stacking them is convenient once and expensive thereafter.

  • 01Several sleeves stacked, multiplying runout at the tool
  • 02Tapers damaged by repeated tang ejection
  • 03Long extensions used on heavy cuts
  • 04The wrong retention method allowing the tool to slip

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Taper reduction sleeves and extension sockets, ground for concentricity.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so sleeves arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

A reduction sleeve has a larger external taper and a smaller internal taper so a small-shank tool can run in a larger spindle. An extension sleeve moves the tool further from the spindle. Both depend on concentricity between the two tapers, which is why the grinding sequence matters more than the catalogue number.

02

Types and configurations

Morse-to-Morse reductions in common combinations, extension sockets in a range of lengths, and sleeves with tang or threaded retention. Verified table to follow.

03

Confirming compatibility

Confirm both tapers, the retention method and the total length against your reach and rigidity needs — a sleeve that reaches but flexes solves nothing.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Hardened steel with both tapers ground in one setup wherever possible, and concentricity checked.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select reduction and extension sleeves?

Inner and outer taper sizes, Length or extension required, Retention method (tang or drawbar), Machine and application, Quantity. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise reduction and extension sleeves?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
