Product

The small part that holds everything else

A pull stud is inexpensive, easy to get wrong, and the only thing between your drawbar and a tool holder at full speed. Its form must match the drawbar gripper exactly.

  • BT, CAT and ISO forms
  • With and without coolant-through
  • Older standards made from sample
Section A-ARetention knob and taper seat

Best for

Automatic tool change and standardising a mixed tool crib

You send

Holder taper, machine make and drawbar type, or a sample

You get back

Studs matched to the machine, not just the taper

How it starts

Drawbar standard confirmed before manufacture

The situation

A safety problem hiding as a consumable

The same taper can use different stud forms on different machines, which is how mixed cribs happen — and why they are dangerous.

  • 01Mixed stud forms in one machine's tool crib
  • 02Studs over-torqued and stretched during fitting
  • 03Wear on the gripping surface treated as cosmetic
  • 04Studs without coolant sealing fitted to through-coolant holders

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Retention knobs matched to your holder taper and machine drawbar standard.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so pull studs arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

A pull stud screws into the back of a taper tool holder and is gripped by the machine drawbar. Its geometry must match the drawbar gripper exactly — a wrong or worn stud is an accuracy problem and a safety problem at the same time. CMTA supplies pull studs to the common standards and to sample.

02

Types and configurations

BT, CAT and ISO tapers, with and without coolant-through, in the standard angles and thread sizes. Verified table to follow.

03

Confirming compatibility

Confirm the drawbar standard on the machine, not just the holder taper. This is the single most common source of error in pull stud ordering, and a sample settles it immediately.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Alloy steel heat treated to the required core strength, ground on gripping and locating surfaces, with thread and profile inspected.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select pull studs?

Holder taper (BT30/40/50, CAT, ISO), Machine make and drawbar type, Stud standard or a sample, Coolant-through requirement, Quantity. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise pull studs?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
