Product

Concentric clamping for every straight-shank tool

The most-used holder in most tool cribs, and the one most often blamed unfairly. Supplied to your spindle interface, collet series and projection, with the runout-critical features ground.

  • Common ER series
  • Standard and extended projections
  • Ground taper and collet seat
Section A-ACollet holder and nut

Best for

Clamping straight-shank cutters, drills and reamers

You send

Spindle interface, collet series, tool diameter and projection

You get back

Holders and collets matched to the tools you run

How it starts

Compatibility confirmed before manufacture

The situation

Where collet setups lose accuracy

Runout at the tool is cumulative, and the collet system is where several contributions quietly add up.

  • 01A shank clamped outside the collet's collapse range
  • 02A long projection used where a short one would reach
  • 03Damaged collet nuts and dirty tapers accepted as normal
  • 04A large collet series chosen for small tools, losing rigidity

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Collet holders and collets for milling, drilling and reaming on compatible machines.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so holders and collets arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

ER collet holders clamp straight-shank tools by compressing a slotted collet inside a tapered nose. They are the general-purpose holder on machining centres and are also used on lathes and drilling machines. CMTA supplies holders and collets across the common ER series.

02

Types and configurations

Holders with BT, ISO, CAT and straight-shank or Morse taper interfaces, in standard and extended projections, across the ER series. Collets in metric and inch ranges. The verified size table follows CMTA's confirmation.

03

Selecting the right combination

Match the spindle interface and pull stud, choose the collet series from the largest shank you need to hold, and select the projection from the depth of the feature and clearance to the fixture — in that order. Working backwards from projection is how shops end up with a holder that reaches but will not cut.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Holder bodies are hardened and ground on the taper and collet seat; collets are ground for concentricity. Runout is checked on the finished holder.

What to send, and where to look next

The inputs that make a useful review, plus the related pages worth reading first.

Include this in your enquiry

  • Spindle taper or interface (BT, ISO, CAT, HSK, Morse, straight)
  • Collet series (ER11 to ER50)
  • Tool shank diameter range
  • Projection or gauge length
  • Runout requirement

Typical applications

  • End milling and slot milling
  • Drilling and reaming
  • Tapping with tension-compression variants where specified

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select er collets and er collet holders?

Spindle taper or interface (BT, ISO, CAT, HSK, Morse, straight), Collet series (ER11 to ER50), Tool shank diameter range, Projection or gauge length, Runout requirement. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise er collets and er collet holders?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
