Square-shank tooling, set on centre height

Part of the turret-lathe tooling system used with HMT and similar machines — holding the tool at the correct centre height and orientation, without a stack of shims underneath it.

  • Straight and offset forms
  • Sized to your turret slot
  • Obsolete designations reproduced

Best for

Turning, facing and boring on turret lathes

You send

Holder designation, tool shank size and turret details

You get back

Holders inspected for centre height and squareness

How it starts

Offset confirmed against the operation

The situation

The shim problem

Every packed shank is a rigidity loss and a repeatability loss, repeated at every setup.

  • 01Tool shanks packed with shims instead of a correct-size holder
  • 02Worn clamping faces no longer holding the shank square
  • 03The wrong offset for the operation being run
  • 04Centre height that drifts between setups

What you get

What working with CMTA actually delivers

Holders for square-shank turning and boring tools on turret lathes and VTLs.

  • Confirmed compatibility

The machine interface, tool interface and working envelope are checked before manufacture, so holders arrive ready to run.

  • Standard, custom or replaced

Supplied from range where a standard suits the job, made to order where it does not, or reproduced from your sample where the original is unavailable.

  • Ground where it counts

Locating and clamping features are ground and the dimensions governing runout and repeatability are inspected before dispatch.

  • A local replenishment route

Repeat orders and modifications are handled in Bengaluru rather than through an import cycle.

01

What it is and where it runs

SLA and SLB designations belong to the turret-lathe and VTL tooling system used with HMT and similar machines. They hold square-shank tools at the correct centre height and orientation in the turret, in straight and offset forms for turning, facing and boring.

02

Types and configurations

Sizes to suit common shank sections and turret slots. The verified designation table follows CMTA's confirmation.

03

Confirming compatibility

Match the turret slot and clamping, the tool shank section, and the offset the cut requires.

04

Material, treatment and inspection

Alloy steel, heat treated, ground on locating and tool seat faces, with centre height inspected.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions engineers and buyers ask before sending a drawing. If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get an engineer's answer, not a brochure.

Still have a question?

Talk to Anita M.N, Managing Partner, or send the drawing and let the review answer it.

What information is required to select sla and slb holders?

Holder designation (SLA or SLB), Tool shank size, Machine and turret details, Reach and offset, Cutting direction. If you are unsure of any of these, send a photograph of the current holder and the machine nameplate — that is usually enough for us to confirm the rest.

Can CMTA customise sla and slb holders?

Yes. Variations in length, reach, interface, clamping or tool size are manufactured to order. Fully custom variants go through the custom tool holder process, with a drawing approved by you before manufacture.

How is compatibility confirmed?

Against three things: the machine interface, the tool interface and the working envelope. Where an existing item is being replaced, matching it to your sample or original part number is the most reliable route of all.

Can CMTA manufacture from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. A drawing is manufactured to its stated tolerances; a sample is measured and reverse engineered into a drawing for your approval, and then manufactured.
